Laser Hair Removal

Cutting Edge Technology

Santé Skin & Body Medical Spa offers laser hair removal using IPL (Intense pulsed light) and the LightSheer™ diode laser  technologies with the Lumenis One Aesthetic System.

Lumenis™
Made by Lumenis™, the same company that pioneered Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, the LightSheer™ diode laser is considered the industry “gold standard” in achieving permanent hair reduction.

The LightSheer™ is the first system to provide permanent hair reduction using state-of-the-art, high-power diode technology.

The Lumenis™ Patented ChillTip provides continuous contact cooling of the epidermis for maximal patient safety and comfort.

Heat
The heat loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. Since pigment is necessary to treat effectively, we cannot treat gray, blonde, red or silver hair.

Treatments
Since hair follicles grow in cycles, it is impossible to treat all the viable hair follicles in one session. To be effective, a series of 6 treatments is recommended. To target the active growth cycle, the treatments are spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart.

During Treatment
During treatment process, it is important to only shave or clip the new hair growth. No waxing, plucking or hair removal creams should be used since the hair shaft must be intact for the light energy to be transmitted to the hair bulb.

Treatment Areas
Almost all areas, such as face (except around the eyes), back, chest, shoulders, legs and arms can be treated effectively, quickly and safely.  Experience the freedom of no more waxing, tweezing or shaving!

Sante Spa is committed to provide you with state of the art technology along with expert medical advice in a spa atmosphere contact us today for your free consultation _____________________________________________________________________________________

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The LightSheer Diode produces

a beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted by the laser is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles, which converts it into heat and causes thermal damage to the follicle to disable prevent regrowth. This is all done without any harm to the surrounding tissue. Your hair grows in three different phases. Laser hair removal is most effective when the hairs are in the anagen phase, known as the active growth phase. As all of the hairs are not in this phase as the same time, several treatments will be necessary to achieve permanent reduction.

Who is a good candidate for LightSheer Diode laser treatment?
The ideal candidate

has dark hair and light skin. Darker hair absorbs more of the laser light, and lighter skin interferes less with the movement of the laser light into the hair follicle. Dark or tan skin runs a higher risk of pigmentation changes following the procedure. Your laser technician can determine during your initial consultation if you are a good candidate.

How do I prepare for a laser hair removal treatment?
It is important to avoid

tweezing, waxing and electrolysis 4-6 weeks prior to treatment so the laser has something to target. The skin must be shaved to remove any hair on the surface, prior to your laser hair removal appointment. Avoid tanning 4 weeks before and after your treatments because the laser targets dark pigments and dark skin may experience hypo-pigmentation (lighter areas) if the laser energy contacts it.

What does the treatment feel like?
Most people tolerate

the treatments very well. Discomfort is often described as a slight tingling or a pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band. Topical anesthesia can be used when treating particularly sensitive areas of the body if desired.

How long do treatments last? How many will I need?
Sessions can last from a few minutes to

more than an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to specific skin types and color, thickness and density of hair. Several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results. Consult your technician for an estimate of the necessary number of treatments.

Are there any possible side effects?
The appearance of the treated area

immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are usually minor. There may be some redness and swelling around the treated hair follicles; this is a desired clinical result indicating that the follicle has responded to treatment. This reaction typically disappears within hours. Most people return to normal activity right away. On rare occasions, some blistering may occur, but this typically resolves quickly.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
There is No laser that has received

FDA clearance for a claim of permanent hair removal. However, the LightSheer™ Diode designed by Lumenis™ was the first to be cleared by the FDA for permanent hair reduction. That is defined by the FDA as 85% or greater hair reduction. It is possible that follicles in the treated area, while not being completely destroyed, will be sufficiently disabled to the point where they produce only fine, light hairs that do not respond to further laser treatments and will need electrolysis. This information is backed by an extensive amount of clinical research and you should be wary of anyone who claims otherwise.

Are there any guarantees in laser hair removal?
It is impossible to predict

the exact result a patient will achieve with laser hair removal, especially with regard to how many sessions a given individual will require. Many of the hair removal clinics which guaranteed results have gone out of business. Like most reputable medical practices, the most established laser hair removal practices do not guarantee results.

Why can’t I have laser hair removal performed if I have a tan?
Having a tan increases your risk of

side effects such as blistering and discoloration. Due to the fact that on a tanned skin, the laser tends to aim at the surrounding skin rather than the hair, scarring of the skin may also occur.
